1. How often do you accept submissions?

We accept submissions two times a year for our Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter issues.

2. How much does it cost to submit? 

There is a $3.00 reading fee for each submission. 

 

3. If my work is accepted, what is compensation?

We pay $25 for works of fiction and nonfiction; $10 for each poem. As our magazine grows, our payments to writers will, too.

 

4. Do you accept work only by women writers?

No! Since our first issue, we've published writers of all genders from all over the world. We only ask that the submissions are relevant to the themes of the magazine. 

 

5. My work was accepted. What happens next?

A month or two before publication, our coeditors will reach out with a brief contract to sign. Genre editors will reach out with any suggested edits to the manuscript for your approval. Once the contract is signed and the edits are approved on both sides, we will send payment over Venmo or Paypal. On the day of publication, you will receive a complementary digital copy of the magazine. Hard copies are available for purchase on our website. 

 

What is your policy on AI?

We are strongly opposed to publishing or using any artificial intelligence for any part of the magazine. Writers should not submit their work for consideration if AI was used in the creation of their work. If writers intentionally misrepresent AI work as their own, Literally reserves the right to reject, withdraw, or remove their work from the publication. Authors that repeatedly submit AI-generated work for consideration will be flagged and automatically disqualified for submissions in future issues. We ask all accepted writers to certify that they have not used AI and reserve the right to verify using third party services if there is any doubt.

 

We will never feed any writing into LLMs, nor will we ever use LLMs to screen submissions. Each submission is read and rated by at least two human readers.
